Meet Danielle at Bellissimo Weddings

From the age of four I spent most of my weekends travelling around the UK representing England as a professional Ballroom and Latin dancer, competing in several competitions including two world championships. Due to my dedication and determination by the age of eighteen I was competing at the highest level nationally, where I ranked 4th position in Great Britain. Towards the end of my professional dancing career I joined Encore formation team where we achieved 1st position at Blackpool Tower. This lead to us representing England at the World Formation Championships two years in a row in Germany and Austria.

At the age of nineteen, I made the decision to put an end to my professional Ballroom and Latin career and took myself to university to further my knowledge in different styles of dancing. In the two years I was at university studying a Higher National Diploma in Dance we were set many assignments which taught me a number of qualities that I have been able to make good use of in my career in weddings and events such as time management, meeting deadlines and team work.

After graduating university with a distinction, I moved back to Bournemouth where I began teaching I feel this was a great test in patience and drive to achieve the best possible outcome I could achieve. With around thirty children and twenty adults to choreography for – this gave me a real insight into management. After falling pregnant with my second daughter, I had decided it was time for a career change which is when I fell in love with the wedding and event industry (more on this later …)

In the seventeen years of my dancing career, it has taught me that with hard work you can achieve anything and to not let anything stand in your way!

I first started working in the catering industry as a waitress at the age of seventeen. As most of you will agree, I was at an age where I did not know where I wanted life to take me. After working in the catering industry, I worked for a hotel which is when I was first introduced to the wedding and events industry. Within this role, I would help set up function rooms for events and weddings whilst also playing a part in their catering team providing guests with silver service in a fast-paced environment. This job role gave me the confidence to pursue my interest into weddings and events. This is when I began planning events for friends and family and took a course for event management.  A surprise 50th birthday, a festival themed wedding, a surprise 21st birthday and of course my own wedding are amongst the few that I planned in my early days even before my career began.

In 2013, the first of my three daughters were born, shortly followed by my second daughter in 2014. Now I know what you are thinking –  Danielle you are mad! Well I couldn’t agree more, with 18 months between my first two daughters they can argue like cat and dog, but it is amazing to see the love between them and I cannot wait to see their relationship unfold as they grow.

In 2015 I married my best friend at the beautiful venue “Beach Weddings Bournemouth”. A week later we flew to the gorgeous island of Santorini for our honeymoon. Not long after returning, I built up the confidence to contact Melanie the owner at Beach Weddings Bournemouth seeking a position to work for the venue where I had married! At this point the wedding season was almost over and there were no roles available. Six months went by when I called Melanie again – this time it was the start of my career.

In 2016 I started working as Wedding Assistant for Beach Weddings Bournemouth. It was at this time my knowledge for the wedding and events industry broadened – from helping set the venue up, meeting and greeting guests and making sure the day ran in a timely manner. Once the season had come to an end, I started doing a couple of days a week work experience in the office where I was first introduced to our sister companies, Simply Gourmet, Simply Events and of course Bellissimo Weddings. This was such an exciting time for me and broadened my knowledge vastly. As time went on, Melanie had noticed a lot of potential in me and offered me a position as a Seasonal Wedding Manager.  This is when I became more involved in the Bellissimo Weddings side of the business.

The first Bellissimo Wedding I had the pleasure of working on professionally was for a lovely couple – Richard and Sophie, where I was second in command under the watchful eye of Melanie and it really meant I could put my years of learning and my beach management to the test. At this point I was roughly seven months pregnant with my third daughter (I promise this one is my last 😊) This was my time to prove that I could be a great asset to the team. Within this role I set up the venue the day before the wedding ensure every aspect was correctly positioned and displayed, managing the Front of House team whilst Melanie was looking after the couple and the ceremony, making sure the venue was completely set up before the arrival of the Bride, Groom and their guests, receiving food from back of house, managing the team out the front to ensure all guests received the correct meal in a well-presented manner and keeping an eye on the happy couple, making sure they and their guests where happy and looked after at all times.

Well – there you have it – I did it! I am now heading very excitedly into the 2018 wedding season as a full member of the Bellissimo team and I am very much looking forward to the year ahead with a number of weddings on the Bellissimo side under my belt and working on my own weddings for this coming season. Being a part of the Bellissimo team has been my dream come true, sure I have a long way to come, but as I always say “nothing is a problem”! I love getting to know each and every couple individually and helping to create the wedding which truly suits them and is everything which they want it to be but without the stress being on them.  I strive to build great relationships with my couples to ensure they are comfortable with me and making sure they feel a sense of relaxation in the lead up their special day.
