I started working in events at the age of 18, after spending my gap year travelling Australia – It was my first ‘real’ full time job. I worked full time for Merlin’s Catering at Parley Manor for four consecutive wedding seasons. Within this time, I became their front of house manager, meaning I was the first point of contact for couples, guests, staff and suppliers. Over these four seasons, I met hundreds of couples, however, I would always ensure every couple felt special. My on the day management duties would include setting up the venue, ensuring the day ran smoothly and on time but most importantly ensuring an enjoyable day was had for all my couples. From working at the venue, I gained skills in venue management, staff management and communication – whilst also providing me with an insight into the logistics of wedding and event catering.
After my first season at Parley, my passion for events grew and I decided to head off to Plymouth University to study a BA (Hons) Event Management degree. During university, I carried out a placement with Best Parties Ever & Tapenade Catering. The Summer was spent working with the catering team, providing exclusive cuisine and innovative hospitality, for an array of different venues and events. The events varied from small weddings to airshows attracting audiences from all over the world. In the winter, I was planning, coordinating and managing Christmas parties for up to 600 guests a night. My managerial role included creating floor plans, organising the bar and banqueting team, banking, directing entertainment, placing drinks and token orders, filing daily reports and looking after my live-in team – plus, anything else which came my way. I graduated University in 2014 with a 1st in my degree (wahoo!) and much more event experience under my belt.
In 2013, I first met Melanie and I started working as a Wedding Assistant at Beach Weddings Bournemouth. In 2014, I developed in to a managerial role which left me in charge of managing the venue and staff. As the wedding season came to a close, I decided to leave the UK to travel. I travelled around South-East Asia, Indonesia and The Philippines whilst spending the majority of my time living and working in New Zealand. Travelling created so many new exciting experiences for me from sky dives, caving, skiing, diving, new (and strange) cuisines, white water rafting… you name it, I’ve probably done it. Plus, at the same time I got to meet a huge amount of amazing people from a vast amount of cultures and societies.
In 2016, I returned to the UK, I recall receiving a message from Melanie from Bellissimo Weddings saying that she had been following my adventures and was very keen, as was I, to have me back on-board. This time I became a full-time member of the team which meant I also became fully involved in Bellissimo and Simply Gourmet. This was a great opportunity to bring back to the company the two seasons of experience which I already had working with them and all of the global experience which I gained whilst travelling throughout various jobs. Becoming a full-time member of the team means that I get to work with couples from their initial enquiry right up to their wedding date – which I love, it means I get to know the couple and create a relationship. To me this is really important, as I know couples feel at ease with me when the big day arrives.
Working alongside Simply Gourmet, has opened up my eyes to the world of food and all the logistics involved. Plus, my skills as a professional dessert taster – always come in handy. My favourite part of planning a wedding (apart from seeing everything coming together on the day) is bringing people’s ideas to life – I really believe that your day should be the most beautiful and memorable day you could possibly have – so if you want something, go for it. From a logistical brain to a creative eye, I believe I can help you create your perfect day – Let’s get planning!
